Bootloader

The Bmbed bootloader is a small and stand-alone embedded program which allows to update the main embedded application software over the Bmbed network. The bootloader runs in a separate FLASH area. This protects the bootloader against unexpected interrupts e.g. power failure during update. The Bmbed bootloader also executes some main application checks during startup.

The Bmbed bootloader itself can only be updated with a debug probe and an according FLASH loader (e.g. TI Code Composer Studio, Keil µVision).

The Bmbed bootloader package includes:

  • Development project for the according microcontroller and IDE.
  • Complete source code.

Update with Bootloader

  1. The running application gets the update command. The application removes the own recognition pattern and perfoms a system reset.
  2. The system starts. The bootloader recognizes the missing pattern and stays active.
  3. The bootloader gets the update command and deletes the entire application FLASH memory.
  4. The bootloader gets the new application code and stores it in the application FLASH memory.
  5. The bootloader starts the new application.
